There’s a good chance Sleep Token comes to mind whenever music lovers hear the words mystery and a genre-blending sound. Sleep Token is a famous London-based music group that fuses genres including alternative metal, progressive metal, post-rock, and pop. The band has also grown incredibly famous for keeping their identities hidden for years. Musician Corey Taylor comments on this anonymity: “I love that nobody knows who Sleep Token are.“
However, there’s been an exciting twist of late. Recent discoveries seem to have unveiled the real identities behind the popular music group. So, in this article, expect to read about:
- The true identities of the members of Sleep Token.
- Brief profiles of each Sleep Token member.
- Reactions from fans and the music community.
Let’s begin!
History Behind the Band Sleep Token
Despite being one of the least accessible bands, Sleep Token has catapulted itself into mainstream success with its mystique and appeal. The masked collective was formed in 2016 and owes its origins to the ancient deity called Sleep.
The alternative metal band has gained millions of monthly listeners, especially since the release of their debut full-length album, Sundowning. In 2023, at the height of their glory and magnificence, the group sold tickets to their Wembley show in under 10 minutes. A year before that, they performed at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, a city famed for free slots available online. You can also feel not only the excitement but also become the owner of unlimited winnings right now. Choose an online casino for your pleasant pastime and listen to your favorite music band.
The band from London is also reputed for their style and the way they wear masks and cloaks. But it might interest you that Sleep Token isn’t precisely the first anonymous British alternative metal band we’ve seen. There was Balsac, The Jaws Of Death, Slipknot, and the band GWAR that earned fascination among fans with their mysterious approach.
Ghost’s Tobias Forge has rationalized the reason for the anonymity of these groups, explaining that “what people see, hear and experience with [Ghost] is the result of the fact that they do not see individuals.“
Sleep Token’s Members Unmasked: Who Are the Insiders of the Popular Band in 2024?
Since the popular band’s members were unveiled, Sleep Token’s social media following has increased by 35%. Fans are buzzing with all kinds of reactions.
While some seem excited about the member’s revealed identity, others are surprised. Though Sleep Token’s music has earned about a 20% increase in streams recently, what remains unsettled is why the band suddenly deleted their Instagram posts and left the phrase nothing lasts forever. Whether it’s the end of their enigmatic presence or the beginning of a new era, we cannot tell.
Nevertheless, let’s see the real identities of the group’s current and past members.
Lead Vessel, aka Leo George Faulkner
The frontman and lead vocalist of the Sleep Token band Vessel has been identified as Leo George Faulkner. Born in 1993, Vessel previously worked on a solo project called Dusk.
Besides being a former writer, Vessel hosted a YouTube channel he captioned Monkeyl0rd22. He also worked with Gemma Matthews on the Blacklit Canopy band. What’s somewhat amusing is that anyone could see his face from behind the mask he wears.
More clues suggesting that Vessel is Leo Faulkner are hidden in the song Take Me Back to Eden. Vessel’s lyrics reference his old band with the line, “I can offer you a Blacklit paradise.” Another hint is in the song ‘Euclid’ from their third album AfterThis Place Will Become Your Tomb, where he sings, “These ancient canopies.“
Faulkner’s name is also listed interchangeably with Vessel in the ASCAP repertory as one of the writers for Sleep Token.
II, aka Adam Pedder
Although the drummer for Sleep Token is fondly referred to as II, his real name is Adam Peddler. Arguably, this guy is one of the most talented you’ll ever find in the UK.
Born in 1991, he worked in several bands before Sleep Token, namely Morbid Remains, Belial, and As Winter Burns White. Adam’s mask was uncovered while he played drums in Let’s Play Music. He used similar kits during the Hypnosis Play-through.
III, aka Dave Ball
The mysterious member III of Sleep Token’s band is Dave Ball. He’s the band’s bassist, and the story behind his unmasking is slightly different. It’s more like he was caught unawares.
In January 2023,the band went on a tourwith Mitsubishi Architects in Germany. Interestingly, Adam Rossi took pictures of Dave rocking a hat he got as a gift from Michael Petritsch, the guitar tech from the North.
Dave also posted another photo of his performance at the Verti Music Hall in Berlin, one of the stops listed on their German tour poster.
IV, aka Rhys Griffiths
What’s a popular mysterious band without a guitar wizard? IV right here is the team’s lead guitarist, and he is named Rhys Griffiths. Before Sleep Token, Rhys played for the Continents from 2013 until 2019. Besides, he was the band’s vocalist.
Rhys didn’t start with Sleep Token as a guitarist. He was first the guitar tech and eventually the guitarist and backup vocalist. From his picture with Dave, it is clear he’s the face behind the voice–IV. The eyes match perfectly.
The Vesselettes
The Vesselettes are a subgroup within the band. Their members are Mathilda Riley, Lynsey Ward, and Paige Lucip. Lynsey is a vocalist and keyboard player whose roots are in Tamworth, England. She plays for Sleep Token and Exploring Birdsong, a three-man rock band.
Mathilda and Paige, on the other hand, are backup vocalists. The three revealed their identities in a recent Instagram post in which they took a picture together.
Annina Melissa and Jasper Lyons
These two past group members played different roles between 2016 and 2020. Annina, sometimes called Razorchild by her fans, is a renowned cyberpunk music writer and producer. She was also a keyboardist and pianist who provided backup vocals.
Before Sleep Token, she and Adam Pedder were integral parts of the She Must Burn band. Outside of music, Annina also designs and composes video games. In 2018, a picture of her at the Download Festival surfaced online, and she was wearing an artist wristband during Sleep Token’s performance.
Jasper, on the other hand, was the former lead guitarist. Now, he serves as the founder of Eastbourne Music Collective.
